Burl Walnut Card Table c1820. This is a truly fantastic late Georgian burl walnut card table. This table really needs to be seen in the flesh to fully appreciate its quality. The top has a burl walnut veneer in the centre surrounded by boxwood stringing and darker walnut and then the serpentine moulded edge in laburnum. The cabriole legs and the frieze are veneered in walnut with a continuous cross banding in tulipwood. On either long side of the frieze there are brass mouldings with floral patterns and foliage. The four feet are formed from decorative brass mouldings.
The top swivels to reveal the inner compartment lined in mahogany and then opens on hinges showing the green baize covering which still has its original tooling around the edge.
The burl walnut used on this piece is beautiful with wonderful colour and depth. Only top money is going to secure this item.
