Burl Walnut Writing Slope C 1860. A very striking burl walnut writing slope with brass banding and ebony edging. In the centre of the lid is a blank brass shield which is replicated on the front as the escutcheon for the working lock. Inside there is a leather writing area with an ebonized surround. Beneath the inkwell and pen tray there is a two drawer secret compartment accessed by raising one of the partitions.
This is very attractive writing slope which stands out from the crowd and it deserves to be in the home of a discerning collector.
