A Burl Walnut Writing Slope C 1860. A very striking burl walnut writing slope with quarter fan inlay in the corners and ornate cross banding and stringing. The lid has a diamond shaped mother of pearl central inlay made up of one centre piece surrounded by two rows of smaller diamond shapes. This is replicated on a smaller scale on the escutcheon plate for the lock. The sides and back are veneered in mahogany. Inside there is a leather writing area with an ebonized surround. Beneath the inkwell and pen tray there is a two drawer secret compartment accessed by raising one of the partitions.
This is very attractive writing slope which stands out from the crowd and it deserves to be in the home of a discerning collector.
