Large Satin Wood Double Tea Caddy. A splendid late Georgian double tea caddy C1820. The caddy is edged all round with ebony and tulip wood cross banding. In the centre of the lid is a brass carrying handle with two matching conch shell inlays either side. The conch shell inlays in the front are of a different pattern and lay horizontally, The inverted teardrop escutcheon is in rosewood. The oval inlays on either end is in burl yew with a boxwood surround. Inside there is a glass mixing bowl with two tea compartment on either side. The theme of ebony and tulipwood cross banding is continued as are the inlays in burl yew.
A number of different and contrasting woods coming together to make a beautifully designed and made piece.
